Pet Peeve No. 1

Wikipedia describes a pet peeve as being "a minor annoyance that an individual identifies as particularly annoying to him or her, to a greater degree than others may find it." I just thought it a sign of my advancing years and part of the grumpy old man syndrome but I find that I seem to be affected more and more by pet peeves.

One such annoyance is the increasing use of the term "Mother's Day" for the middle Sunday of Lent. It's NOT! That particular day is more correctly called "Mothering Sunday". Mother's Day, not that there is anything wrong with it, as far as I'm concerned is an American invention/celebration that occurs in May so as I'm writing this in the middle of Lent, I'd like to wish all mothers, whether in the UK, America or anywhere else in the world "Happy Mothering Sunday".
