I was at a well attended meeting in the Council Chamber in Ilkeston Town Hall this morning where plans for the possible creation of a Town Council as an additional layer of bureaucracy were being discussed. It is all part of a review aimed at bringing local matters back to local people.There is an obvious cost involved which will add to the Council Tax bill but the overriding mood of the meeting was that Ilkeston has suffered under the jurisdiction of Erewash Borough Council as no members of the ruling party actually live in the town. There is a general perception in Ilkeston that other areas of the borough fare more favourably even though the town has a population higher than any other town or village.
